Originally designed by architect Walter Liberty Vernon in 1912, the REVY was the only military research lab in the country, with most of its work highly classified. The lab eventually became part of the Navy’s weapons system research facility and was the site for anti-terrorism evacuation and emergency exercises in the preparation for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, until finally closing its doors in 2008.
Following the purchase of the site by Aqualand, 360 Degrees were commissioned in collaboration with PTW Architects and Design 5 Architects for the evolution of this site into premium residence.
The buildings rich heritage is preserved and celebrated, deliberate modern interventions are balanced with historic materials and detail. The building is gated by a split face bluestone wall and palisade fence which belies the private courtyard gardens composed of lush Sydney natives and ancient tree ferns. Crowned by its rooftop terrace, the majesty of the harbour is captured from an elevated deck with pocketed spaces for respite, entertainment and seclusion.
